Lily LaMotte’s Unhappy Camper is an incredible graphic novel about Michelle, a middle school Taiwanese American girl who just wants to fit in with the other kids at school. Her sister, Claire, is very proud of their family’s heritage and goes to Taiwanese American camp every summer. When Michelle’s parents tell her that she’ll be joining Claire at camp this summer, Michelle thinks her life is over! Once she gets there, though, she learns more about herself and her culture than she ever thought she would. Unhappy Camper is a beautiful story about fitting in, sharing cultures, and the pressures of middle school.
