In Malaysian cultures, boys don’t cook, only girls can join the aunties and Mamah in cooking the Lunar New Year dinner. When Jin asks to help his Mamah cook, his aunties say no, but when Mamah says yes, he learns how to cook his family’s recipes, and proves that both girls and boys can cook.
